Our Story
A heart warming story about a charity organization started by two people who fell in love. Forced to navigate through the criminal justice system they began to become more passionate about lowering recidivism in inner-city communities.
In the bustling city of Harlem, New York, two hearts found each other in the most unlikely of circumstances. Brandy, a bright and determined young woman studying criminal justice in college, had always been driven by her desire to make a difference in the lives of those affected by the justice system. Shaun, a kind-hearted man with a troubled past, found himself incarcerated within the New York state criminal justice system.
Shaun and Brandy built an unbreakable bond that transcended the confines of prison walls by discovering a shared passion for helping others and navigating the challenges of reentry after incarceration.
As Brandy learned more about the harsh realities faced by individuals leaving the criminal justice system, she became increasingly determined to make a lasting impact. Inspired by their own experiences and the stories of others they encountered, Shaun and Brandy decided to channel their love and dedication into something greater—a charity organization aimed at reducing recidivism in inner-city communities.
The Creation of Reyn or Shyne
Their first course of action was to address one of the biggest obstacles faced by families with loved ones in New York State correctional facilities—the lack of transportation for visitation. Brandy and Shaun ununderstood that maintaining family bonds played a vital role in successful reentry and reducing recidivism rates. Many families lack of regular contact often led to a sense of isolation and despair.
With their hearts set on creating a positive change, they worked tirelessly to establish their charity organization, which they aptly named "Reyn or Shyne Community Reintegration Program" They reached out to like-minded individuals and organizations, raising awareness and gathering support for their cause. The community responded with an outpouring of empathy, recognizing the significance of their mission.
The Shuttle service was Born
Through their unwavering determination, Brandy and Shaun secured their transportation service. Each week, they organized scheduled visits, ensuring that families could maintain crucial connections with their loved ones and foster a sense of hope during the often-challenging period of incarceration.
As news of their charity spread, their efforts attracted the attention of influential individuals within the criminal justice system. Recognizing the impact their organization was having on families and the potential to break the cycle of recidivism, government officials and other organizations began offering their support allowing Reyn or Shyne to expand its services beyond transportation.
Empowerment for the Ex-incarcerated
Brandy, drawing upon her knowledge of criminal justice and forensic psychology and Shaun offering hands on knowledge and expertise of the population, they developed vocational training programs for individuals leaving correctional facilities. Partnering with local businesses, they provided opportunities for skill-building, job placement, and mentorship. Financial education workshops were also introduced to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to rebuild their lives upon release.
With each success story, Brandy and Shaun's dedication grew stronger. The impact of their organization was evident as they witnessed transformed lives, shattered stereotypes, and newfound hope in the eyes of those they helped.
The Youth Enrichment Program
With their transportation service and vocational training programs thriving, Shaun and Brandy realized the importance of prevention and early intervention in breaking the cycle of incarceration. They were deeply concerned about the rising numbers of at-risk youth being drawn into a life of crime and the limited resources available to support them. They decided to expand their efforts by establishing a youth program within Reyn or Shyne Incorporated. The youth program aims to provide guidance, mentorship, and positive role models to at-risk youth in inner-city communities.
By reaching out to these young individuals, and working closely with local schools, community centers, and social service agencies, they could now offer an alternative path, steering kids away from crime and towards a brighter future.
